Mark A. Patterson serves as the Director, Information Technology, for the Department of the Army Civilian Human Resources Agency. Mark is responsible for a 120 member Civilian Human Resources(CHR) IT organization consisting of geographically dispersed government and contractor staff that provides the full spectrum of CHR IT systems and services to over 200,000 Army Civilians worldwide. The organization’s application portfolio consists of over 25 applications that span the HR lifecycle from recruitment to retirement.
He began his service to the United States in 1989 by joining the Army. Shortly after his training was completed he deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Provide Comfort; commonly known as the first Gulf War. He also took part in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and numerous technical and tactical missions.
After serving for 10 years Mark chose to leave the Active Duty Army to become an Army Civilian and continues to serve in that capacity. Mark’s background in information technology spans over 30 years and he has been involved with the deployment of many new and emerging technologies. Always a driver of innovation and automation, Mark is currently leading his organization’s cloud migration from the traditional data center model to a secure hybrid cloud containing both SaaS and PaaS offerings.
When Mark is not working he enjoys spending time with his family, serving the community with his church family, and doing missions work with Ebenezer International Outreach building schools in Nicaragua.
